Biography

STATEMENT
I explore the intersection of contemporary art, memory, and physical and mental well-being. My work examines historical and social narratives through oil paintings, while promoting self-care and emotional balance as tools for healing and self-awareness.
Angie Rangel (b. 1994, Barranquilla, Colombia) is a visual artist whose practice explores the intersection of memory, femininity, cultural identity, and the relationship between public and private spaces. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Atlántico (2020) and a specialization in Artistic Painting from the District School of Arts of Barranquilla (2022). Her education was enriched by a wide range of workshops in sculpture, life drawing, painting, photography, and engraving, through which she cultivated a multidisciplinary and conceptually grounded approach.
While part of Grupo Videns—focused on Caribbean Visual Studies—Rangel developed a photographic project inspired by Walter Benjamin’s concept of jetztzeit (“now-time”). This series, centered on the visual and emotional memory of the Caribbean, was exhibited in Barcelona, Spain, where it earned her the Medal for Best Photography of the Year at the International Salon at ESART Gallery.
Rangel’s career spans solo and group exhibitions in Colombia and Europe. Her early work in intimate photography evolved into a practice that merges traditional oil painting techniques with elements of Impressionism and Surrealism. Influenced by artists such as Remedios Varo, Tamara de Lempicka, and Berthe Morisot, her work reflects a poetic dialogue between the ephemeral and the eternal, where transformation, memory, and identity are constantly redefined.
In 2022, she relocated to Medellín to continue her investigation into the legacy of Débora Arango and to deepen her engagement with contemporary art through curatorial and marketing programs. She completed the Marketing Program for Artists at Universidad de los Andes and took part in a curatorial workshop at the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM).
Her studio in Medellín is the core of her artistic life and ongoing experimentation. With a bilingual profile (Spanish/English) and an IELTS certification, Rangel is committed to bridging Latin American narratives with global audiences.
